Preventing Iron Deficiency
July 21, 2026
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies among women, particularly during the reproductive years. Low iron levels can lead to anemia, causing symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headaches, pale skin, and shortness of breath. Eating iron-rich foods including lean red meat, poultry, fish, beans, lentils, spinach, and fortified cereals can help maintain healthy iron levels. Consuming vitamin C-rich foods such as oranges, strawberries, and bell peppers alongside iron-containing meals improves iron absorption. Women with heavy menstrual bleeding or increased iron needs during pregnancy should follow their healthcare provider's recommendations and may require iron supplements. Regular health checkups and blood tests can help detect iron deficiency before it becomes severe.
